As with airports, there are challenges with the movement of people around the hotel in public areas, social distancing in dining areas at peak times and a focus on cleanliness throughout the property.
Consideration has been given to the practicality of having alternate rooms or floors occupied, or leaving a room vacant for 72 hours between occupancy – but again this is not a sustainable or viable solution once demand returns without price points becoming prohibitive.
There is also an additional challenge at the present in the supply chain and with staff being available and mobilised. On average it takes two weeks to open a closed hotel and chains will likely have to take a phased approach to reopen all properties.
